The Honorable Shirley Franklin, Mayor of Atlanta
In 2001 the people of Atlanta elected Shirley Franklin to serve as the 58th Mayor of the City of Atlanta. She became the first female mayor of Atlanta and the first African American woman to serve as mayor of a major southern city.



The Honorable Sonny Perdue, Governor of Georgia
Sonny Perdue was sworn in as Georgia’s 81st Governor on January 13, 2003. As Georgia’s Governor, Perdue has led the state based on his life experiences and is focused on improving education and growing the state's economy.
